| . * i A yooxEAC-z that caused a vast amount of ' interest in sporting circles took place on the Domain yesterday afternoon, between Patrick Qainlan, licensee of the Thistle Hotel, and A- Champion, a local bootmaker. A large number of bookmakers and other spectator proceeded to the scene of the contest in cabs and drag?, and when the race took place there was a considerable attendanceThe, race was for a £20 wager, over a course of 50?ds, Quinlan receiving 7yds. They got away well. Quinlan, running gamely, was n*ver caught, and won by about % yard. The rime taken for the race was 5 4-5?-Doubtless the sprinters beat the watch badly. There was a good deal of wagering over the affair among the spectators. Mr. Qui D lan is 52 years of age, and weighs 17st Alb, while Champion is about 40 years of age, and weighs 15st Tib. Following this event James Beckett, a wellknown bookmaker, accepted a wager, tupposed to be £50, that he would run 43yds in 6i3., or under.
