JAPAN'S WAR TAXES.
A PERMANENT IMPOST.

TOKIO, February 4. The Constitutional party in the Japanese Diet have decided to support a Bill for converting the war taxes into a permanent impost. A majority for the Bill is assured.
The revenue was increased by war taxes from 256.979,000 ven in ' 1903-4 to 378,462,000 yen (estimated) for 1905-6. This means an. increase of about 120.000.000 ven, or £12.000,000, by war taxes. Even with*this increase, the taxation amounts to only about 16s per head of the population.
