HOWICK MOTOR COMPANY.

AT a meeting of the shareholders of the Howick Slotor 'Bus Company, held at Howick on Wednesday, the chairman of directors (Mr. Oihnour) presiding, it wan unanimously resolved to voluntarilv wind up the company, to appoint Sir. Cochrane to check the accounts, and Messrs. Whitson and tiilmour liquidators. The Chairman said the directors were grieved to meet the shareholders in such untoward circumstances. They had hoped the company would have proved a success, as such a service meant much for the advancement of the district. It was, however, impossible to fight against the adverse circumstances which surrounded them. The want of progressive local bodies tended greatly to retard the prosperity of the district? under their charge. The roads in this district could be by no means considered good. The directors had expected the company would have received better patronage. So long as matters continued as at present there was only one course open, to enter into voluntary liquidation. Mr. Strong (Howick Road Board) protested that the Town Board had never offered nor mad*> any obstruction to the motor 'bus project, but helped all it could by keeping the toads in good order. Mi. Rohson said credit was due to Sir. Uilmour for th? endeavours he bad made to keep the company alive under the most adverse conditions," and asked the meeting to accord him a hearty vote or than';:-.

Mr. George Higgins supported these remarks, and '.he vote was carried by acclamation.
