JUVENILE OFFENDERS.
SUGGESTIONS TO THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday. A circular letter in regard to the method of dealing with juvenile offenders lias been addressed by the Justice Department to the stipendiary magistrates of the colony, the object being to prevent the association of youthful offenders with criminals. In this it is suggested that Mich offenders should be dealt with at special sittings, and that no child should remain in a gaol 01 lock-up, pending trial. It is thought that experience gained in this way will he of value in framing any legislation that may be required.
