THAMES COUNTY COUNCIL. [BY TELKGBAI'II.—OWN" CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Wednesday. At the meeting of the Thames County Council this morning tenders for road works were dealt with as follows:—Upper landing to Tairua Road, No. 1 contract, Norman McLean, £95: Joseph Dufty, £87. The tendor of Mr. McLean was accepted. Same road. No. 2 contract, .Tames O'Sullivan, £34- 12s 6d; Thomas Dufty. £24 10> (accepted). Tapti Creek Road, T. McMahon, £67 15s: .7, Ri.ckitt, £53 4s 6d. Neither of these tenders was accepted, as it was decided to alter the specification and call for fresh tenders. The Council afterwards rove to Kopu, and from thence crossed in a steam launch to Turua, to inspect, the site of the proposed ferry, which has boon in. confcem2>lation for some time, and which appears to bo much needed by the large number o£ residents on the Turua side of the river. For this work a grant has been promised by * the Government to the extent of £750, ana the visit of the Council to-day was for. the purpose of deciding oil the best site for the work. No definite conclusion was, however, arrived at on the ground, and the matter 1 will como up for decision at the next meeting of the Council. The members appeared to be unanimous with regard to the necessity of communication being established between the Turua. district and the railway line on. the Thames side of the river, seeing that the district is a largo one. Tbo establishing of a regular ferry would do much towards increasing its prosperity. The main question is as to the choice of the most con- . ion ft site. , ' . ■ ; i ?.*.f 't j.r
