Lane and Sons, of Whangaroa, for a Napier firm, arrived from the 'Thames yesterday, where her engines and* boiler were fitted un by Messrs. A. and O. Price. On the run up the engines worked smoothly and well, and developed a good rate of speed. The Ruru leaves for Napier shortly. , ~ . THE WAIKARE. The Union Company's steamer Waikare, Captain C. McDonald, which has replaced the Tarowera in the Dunedin-East'Coast-Auckland trade until the end'of this year, arrived from Dunedin and wav -ports at 9 .a.m. yesterday and berthed at Quay-street Jetty No. 2. The steamer left Dunedin on Friday last, and called at the usual way ports. Left Gisborne at 9.30 a.m. and passed the » Bast 1 Cape- at 3.15 p.m. on Wednesday, and arrived as above. Experienced fine weather until passing the East Cape, thence north-west winds and thick rainy weather to arrival. The Waikare leaves for East Coast and Southern ports at noon to-morrow. -, ,' THE AUPOURI. The Northern Company's new steamer Aupouri, Captain Woodfieid, arrived from Glasgow and way ports at 5 -p.m. yesterday, and after the usual inspection berthed at Quay-street Jetty No. 2. The steamer-left Port Glasgow on September 19 ' and called at Port Said. Aden, Colombo, and Fremantle., Generally, fine weather prevailed to Colombo, thence strong head winds and seas to Fremantle. . Left the hitter port for Auckland on November "25. and" experienced fine weather to the New Zealand coast. . Pawed Cape Maria Van - Diemeu on Wednesday morning, when the wind came -in from the- north-west, with very thick, rainv weather, which .prevailed all the way down the coast until nearing port.
