THE AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. A WORLD'S RECORD. The Australasian championship carnival was started in tlio Brisbane Dry Dock recently. Beautiful weather prevailed, and there was a largo attendance. Several minor races wore contested, but the chief events were the three championships, namely, the Quartor-mile, Diving; and 220 yds Breast Stroke. The starters in the quartor-milo were Reran (North Sydney), It. Healy (N.S.W.), Fitts (Victoria), Freyburg (New Zealand), Campbell (Now Zealand), Bunting and F. W. Spring-field (Queensland). C. Healy (N.S.W.), and Loowe (Queensland) had entered for this event, but did not start.
Prom a fine start Koran and .Springfield went to the front. They quickly showed ahead of tho others. Healy was next to leave tho line, with Campbell making an effort to catch him. Keran reached the 200 yds in 2m. 195., with Springfield 10yds away. The 300 yds wore completed in 3m. 405., with Springfield 15yds behind, and Healy about 22yds. The 400 yds were thrown behind in sm. 2s. by Koran, who was swimming beautifully.
