Yesterday, the Edinburgh police arrested : a man named Eruesy Henry Lavington, alias King,-.who is described as. a journalist, of London, on a warrant from the Metropolitan, police, charging him with obtaining credit from the Bank of New Zealand for £7394, under false pretences. ■\ From what I have been able to learn, the accused man represented to the Bank of New Zealand that he was Mr. King, of Tauranga, a customer of the Bank of New Zealand. , Of this gentleman's relations with the bank he displayed accurate and intricate knowledge, even being able to refer to interviews with the bank directors and officials. He gave orders to the bank to buy for him stock to • the -•?. amount stated, -which' the 'officials did, but when it came to delivery and payment he couJd not be found. Inquiries by. cable elicited the fact that Mr. King was ,at home in. the colony, and as several brokers ,in the city were looking for. the person supposed to "be Mr. King, the' natter was placed ".'> -in ; the hands of -the' police.
