A Bay of Islands native named Miki Marepo met with an accident at Takahiwai this week. He was carelessly resting with his arm across the mouth of his loaded gun, and probably exploded the charge by catching the • leg of hits trousers on the trigger. Mr. Malcolm (the native schoolmaster) immediately set off in a rowing boat- to Tamaterau, and secured tho services of Mr. J. 0.
