Mr. Alison lias given notice to ask the Postmaster-General whether it is the intention of the Government to place a sufficient sum on the Supplementary Estimates to provide a suitable post office and telephone exchange at Devon port. lira note to his question lie says: "Though the estimated population of Devonport is over 5000, the post office and telephone exchange is carried on in the same small room as over 20 years ago, and the Department admits that the existing accommodation is wholly inadequate to meet the largely increased and increasing wants of the borough." AUCKLAND PETITIONS. A petition from residents of Waiuku and surrounding districts was presented' to-day by Mr Massey, asking for the construction of a branchrailway from near Pukekohe to Waiuku. The Petitions Committee recommends that, the petition of the Waiteinata County Council and others for a road to give easier means of communication between Henderson and Waikumete be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. A similar recommendation has been made in respect to, the petition by Mi. J. M, J. McKay and otherr for a grant for the Finlavson's Brook Road, Waipu ; the petition of the Waitcmata County Council for grants for road-making; the petition of S. A. Wait© and others for a grant to improve the Waipuna Gorge Road ; and the petition of W. Scholium and others for a grant for two bridges on the I'uhoi-Tahekeroa tunnel road. In regard to the petition of W. A. Murray and others for a grant of £72 for improving' the Waikino recreation reserve, it is recommended by the committee that a £ for £ subsidy be granted to the extent of £36, equalling the amount subscribed by the public. , In respect to the petition of A. M. McKay and others for the suspension of the Counties Act within tho Whangarei County, the committee states that, as a question of public policy is involved, it has no recommendation to make. Mr. Houston has presented a petition from the settlers and Crown tenants of Rawliia, maw era. and vicinity, asking for a survey of a road from Rawliia through their holdings to join the Umawera and Waihou Roads.
