THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL.
DEPARTURE OF THE VENTURA. The mail steamer Ventura arrived from Sydney yesterday morning, and after the usual inspection berthed at the Queen-street Wharf, where the passengers and luggage were landed, and the work of taking in outward cargo was proceeded with. The steamer met with very fine weather crossing the Tasman Sea. She passed Oape Maria Van Diemeri at half-past five p.m. on Thursday. Coming down the coast, however, foggy weather set in, and the steamer's speed had to be reduced, and port was not made until about two hours later than the usual time. The steamer had a fair number of passengers for Auckland, and also for San Francisco, and several joined the steamer at this port. The cargo from Australia for San Francisco consisted of lines of wool, skins, hides, timber, etc.. and was added to at. this port with lines of meats, produce, etc., for Samoa; and flax, hides., kauri gum, etc., for San Fra.ici.sco. The Ventura resumed her voyage for Pago Pago, Honolulu, and San Francisco shortly after half-past three p.m. yesterday, and is due at the Californian port on October 23,. her mails being timed to reach London on November 4.
