BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Auckland Board of Education was held yesterday. Present: Messrs. S. Luke (chairman), J. Stallworthy, J. D. McKenzie, G. E'Jgeeumbe, L. J. Bag-nail, C. J. Parr, and A. 11. Harris. The chairman and members welcomed Mr. Bagnall back to his seat on tho Board after his tour. An apology, for absence was received from Mr. 11. J. Greenslade. Resignation: The chairman reported the resignation of Miss A. Jane, teacher, Mangawharc. Finance Coiamittee : The Finance Committee recommended payment of account® as follows:—Administration account, 14 vouchers, £500 8s lid; manual and technical account, 19 vouchers, £1009 18s lid; and building fund account, 34- vouchors. £781- 14s 7d. The committee recommended payment of the following allowances to teachers of district high schools from the grants earned for the Juno quarter:—Onehunga, Mr. Mcintosh, £10; Mr. Winter, £25; Mr. Warren, £10; Miss Patterson, £5. Paeroa, Mr. Murphy, £20; Miss McCallum, £10. Pukekohe West, Mr. Flavell, £5, and Mr. Roberts, £10. The committee recommended that action should be taken to terminate the existing lease of the school site reserve, part of lot 37,- of the suburbs of Mangere, owing to non-fulfilment of cnoditions thereof by the lessee. The report was adopted. _ Teachers' Selection Committee: ~ The Teachers' Selection Committee . recommended the following appointments:—Mr. Noil McLean, teacher, Pollok school; Mr.'Donald A. McPherson, temporary charge Ureenhithe and Long Bay schools; Mr. Edward Pratt, teacher, Hunua No. 2 school; Mr. John Goosman, teacher, Ota&eo school, half-time with Waiomio; Mies Gladys E. Menzies, teacher, Orahiri " aided" school (Waito'mo); Mr. IT. J. Wooller, second as-sistanv-master, Nelson-street school; Mr. T. E. A. Mackay, third male assistant, Nelsonstreet school; Miss Inez M. Roberts, mistress, Panmure school; Miss Eleanor W. luce, mistress, Ilowick school; Miss E. M. Alexander, temporary mistress, Mamaku school; Miss M. E.' Pilkiiigton, East Tamaki school, pending appointment, of ,mistress; Miss E. M. Jennings, Buckland school, pending appointment of mistress; Miss Evelyn M. Carter, pupil-teacher, from Jriikurangi to Newlon West .school;- and Mr. Kenneth It. White, pupil-teacher, to Hikurangi school. The committee also submitted a communication from the Buckland School Commit too regarding selection of a mistress, and recommended that the committee should be asked to obtain the written consent of one or other of the two teachers recommended for appointment, failing which the Board will advertise again for applications to fill the vacancy. The committee deferred recommendations in regard to selection of teachers for the following appointments, for which applications had been invitedWaihopo, headmaster; Hukatere, Mangaiti, and Tiroa, teachers in sole charge. The report was adopted without. discussion. Educational Conference: The chairman, Mr. Bagnall, and Mr. Petrie (chief inspector) were appointed delegates to the Education Conference in Wellington on September 11.
