Royal personages generally delight in collecting beautiful jewels, and much cartws taken that these costly baubles are not stolen. .Among the so-called " Crown jewels" shown at the Tower of London are many imitations in " paste," the real gems being stored in strong vaults in iron-bound boxes. One of the most valuable collections of jewels in the world is owned by the Imperial family ot Russia. The collection is kept in a fortified castle, which is very strongly guarded. The Tsar keeps some of his own private jewels in banks in London and Paris. The jewels of the Italian Royal family are stored in vaults beneath a fort on a 'little island of the Tiber. Protected as they are by the famous but muddy river above] and by the military guard on the island, they are safe from the most ingenious and daring of burglar.--. The Prince of Bulgaria, whose collection of precious stones is valued at £1,000,000, keeps his treasures locked away in a well-guarded little castle on the Danube.
