A WIN FOR DURNAN. By Telegraph Press Association.—Copyright. Ottawa, August 24. The Canadian sculler, Durnan, in a match, has defeated Sullivan, the New Zealand sculler. (Received August 26, I.S a.m.) Ottawa, August 25. Durnan, who defeated Tom Sullivan, the New Zealand sculler, on Wednesday, won by 17 lengths, in 20m. 565. Recently Durnan challenged James Staabury, the present champion of the- world', to a match to be rowed at Toronto. Stanbury, however, has deckled to defend the championship on the Parramatta. The London Sportsman of July 14- says: — On Thursday next Tom Sullivan leaves England for Toronto, where, on August 23, in the bay, he is articled to row Eddie Durnas for stakes of £200 a-side. Sullivan, who will bo accompanied by Mr. Dick Hodgkiuson.of Putney, sails by the White Star liner leaving Liverpool on the day mentioned. Sullivan has been putting in' steady work for some time past, and even now is very fit. lie double-sculled up to Henley with* Mr. Spencer Gollan, and whilst there had a number of good training spins. After the regatta he rowed down to Richmond. Tie will arrive, in Toronto three weeks before the race, and expects to row at about 12st 61b. Sullivan's stake money (£200) has been forwarded by the editor of the Sportsman to the stakeholder in Toronto.
