An elderly man named Rubin White a well-known settler of To Roti, was committed for trial on a charge, of carnally knowing a girl about 15 years of age. No evidence was taken for the defence. Ohristchvrch, Friday. A man named O'Connor was run over by the Sumner tram, receiving injuries which necessitated mi operation. , ~ , , Oamajiu, Friday. J lie fire is supposed to have been caused by an ember being blown on to the hearthnig. .there was no insurance on the contents, the house was valued at £200 and the contents at £65. An inquiry was held to-day into the circumstances connected with a fire that took place in the shop of Robt, Walker on .Sunday morning last about, two o'clock The verdict was that there, was no evidence to show how the fire originated, but the jury were satisfied it had not been smouldering since the previous najrht.
