WA ITEM ATA SEAT.

Tim Dcvonport branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation met in the Foresters' Hall, Devonport, on Wednesday. Mr. W. U. Timewell was in the chair, a large number of members being present. The chairman stated that the meeting was called to take a ballot for the final selection of a Liberal candidate for the. Wailemata electorate, Messrs. Cecil Glinkard and Gerald L. Peacocke being the candidates for selection. After the ballot had been taken, tho chairman announced that, not having, received all the returns from (he subbranches, the declaration of the result: of tho ballot would be advertised on Saturday, August 26. The following resolution was moved by Mr. Andrew, and seconded by Mr, Anscombe:—" That this branch affirms the principle introduced by the Absolute Majority Rill now before the II Hisc." The secretary was instructed to forward the resolution to the general secretary of the federation at Wellington. The executive officers will meet next week to discuss matters relative to the Waitemata electorate.

A meeting of the Birkdale branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation was held on Wednesday evening, when there was a good attendance. The candidates (Messrs. C. Clinkard and G. L, Peacocke) were ballotted for, and it. was decided to urge Iho Government to provide facilities for the passing of an Absolute Majority Bill this session.
