JUDGE DENNISTON IN HONOLULU.

A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Christchurch, Sunday. Mr. Justice Denniston had a pleasant experience during "his return from a health-re-cruiting trip to British North America. He reached Honolulu on the day when the Bar Association of Hawaii was holding its annual dinner, and accepted an invitation to be present. He had an opportunity of meeting most of the members of the Bench and Bar, which meant most of the prominent legislators and public men. In proposing the toast of the president, the Speaker, in noting the presence of the New Zealander, referred to the good feeling existing between England .and America, and to the respect and regard which were felt in America for King Edward as a' ruler and peacemaker. In reply, Mr. Justice Denniston said that these sentiments, ■ he felt sure,-were reciprocated in English and colonial feeling. Not only were his remarks most cordially received, but the chairman called on the band to play the -English National Anthem, everyone standing up. _ Later on during the, evening a .very distinguished American senator, who was on a public mission to the Phillipines, spoke eloquently and feelingly on the same subject, winding up by saying: "We are glad of cur common origin, our common language our common literature, and our common , law;-_ and we are glad to look forward to the time when the English-speaking people ! on this side of the Atlantic and the English- : speaking people on the other feide will I .dominate the earth." "I aim quite certain," said Mr. Justice Denniston, "that no such incident would have been possible during my former visit ,to America 25 years ago." ' i
