KING COUNTRY MATTERS.
[Br TELEGRAPH.— COBKESPONDENT.] , Wellington, Friday. The Wellington Land Board has been interviewed by Mr. Jennings regarding matters affecting land settlement near Taumarunui, including tho pushing 011 of the Manunui township site plan, the throwing open of lands on the Wellington side of the Wanganui River, below Taumarunui, and the facilitating of . transfers, etc., at the Retaruke settlement, near Oio. It was stated, in reply, that it was expected that the plans for the Manunui township site would be out in about a month; that the land 011 the southern side of the Wanganui River is under the control of the Wanganui River Trust Board; and that the arrangements in connection with the Retaruke settlement are just about completed. Mr. Jennings presented a petition to Parliament to-day from 193 settlers of Ohura, asking that, owing to the large quantity of goods which go astray at the Ongarue railway station, a stationmaster be placed in charge of that station.
