STORMY WEATHER.

SHIPPING DELAYED. The gale from tha'eastward continued until early yesterday morning, when the wind shifted into the south, and then into the north-west, gradually working round into 1 tho south-west. Very heavy vain squalls

prevailed during the day and right. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's steamer Maori, which arrived at Auckland from London direct yesterday morning, had a very rough. trip down from Cape Maria. Van Diem on, which point was passed on Thursday morning. The Northern Company's steamer Clansman, which left Russell for Auckland on Thursday evening, put back to the Bay'of Islands the same evening owing to the severity of the weather, and did not reach Auckland until about eleven a.m. yesterday, several hours later than her usual time. Captain W. Farquhar states that the wind) was of a cyclonic character, veering between . north-north-west and east--east, with a tremendous sea. The Northern Company's steamer Paeroa, which left Awanui for Auckland on Thursday, had not made port up to an early hour this morning, and has probably had to shelter along the coast. The Northern Company's steamer Mangaipapa was due from Ohiwa and Whakatane yesterday, having left the latter port on Thursday afternoon, but up to an early hour this morning she had not put in an . appearance.

COLLAPSE OF A WHARF AT PAEROA. [Br TELEGRAPH.—OWIi" CORRESPONDENT.] Paeroa, Friday. The weather during the past two days has been very boisterous, and last night there was a regular gale, accompanied by heavy : aain. The river has risen considerably, and is now several feet above its normal level. During last night the wharf on tho bank of itbe river at Paeroa collapsed, and was • swept away. It was covered with sawn timber belonging to Messrs.' McAndrew and Co., and several thousand feet were washed away. Beyond the collapse of the wharf no 'damage of importance is reported, although Vhare have been a number of small slips.
