_ The Victorian Minister for Public Instruction has evolved a new idea for the adornment of public schools. His idea is to secure a number of coloured plates of famous pictures, and have 'them available for distribution among State schools. Each picture will cost 2s 6d, and if Mr. Sachse's scheme is carried out this cost will be defrayed by donors of the pictures. In every district there is, the Minister considers, at least one old pupil of the school with sufficient regard for his " alma mater" to present it with a picture which would be pleasing tc the eye of children. A sample set has been obtained by the Department already. The collection is cosmopolitan in subject and treatment, but generally it is well calculated to interest and instinct young pupils.
