AUCKLAND TRAINING COLLEGE

.liv TELEGRAPH, —-SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.')

Wellington, Tuesday. Mr. Fowlds ■is ' asking the Government to put a vote'on- the Estimates for the building of a training college at Auckland. - He points out that the proposal to utilise the Wellesley-street school for the purpose will necessitate the building of another primary school, or considerable additions to existing schools; also, that the Welles-ley-street school is a very unsuitable building tor the purpose- of a training college.

_• People along the coast in the vicinity of Maroubra (N.S.W.) were treated to a rare sight on Julv 11. A school of whales, about five in all, came ploughing up from the south, and as they spouts occasionally made quite an impressive picture. Off Maroubra Bay a tug came along', makingback to port.. As she overhauled the whales about a mile and a-half seaward, and a couplo of hundred yards wide of them, they bowled along harder and harder, and until they disappeared northwards past Bens Buckler (Bondi) . what appeared to be ail even race was in progress. The school included a couple of young ones, as their "spouts" were much weaker than some of the big chaps, who "'blew" 30ft into the air. Being the cold season of the year, it is not surprising to find the whales coming so far north. °

Mr. Cooper's popular, Concert and Biograph Company, which had such a successful season in His Majesty's Theatre, and has recently . performed, in the leading theatres in the colonies, commences a tour of the goldfields at Waihi next Friday, July 28; Paoroa Monday, Waikino Tuesday, and Karangahake Wednesday next. The same programmes which were received here with such enthusiasm will be given during' tho tour.
