DYNAMITE CAP EXPLODES.

A BOY'S HAND SHATTERED.

Waihi, Tuesday. A boy named Bert. Alexander, son of Mr. &. A. Alexander, head fitter at the "Waihi Gold Mining Company's local engineering works, met with a painful accident yesterday evening. It appears that ho had boon in the bush getting wood, and just before returning home ho took a dynamite cap out of his pocket, and, noticing that it was full of dirt, ho commenced tapping it on a log to make the dirt fall out. After a couple of taps the cap exploded and completely shattered the boy's hand. The thumb and first finger were blown off at the first joint and the second and third fingers badly shattered. A lad named Roy Newth was with him at the time, and after bandaging up the hand as well as he could to stop the flow of blood assisted tho sufferer homo. Subsequently ho was taken to the hospital, where his injuries were attended to. He is about 14- years of age.
