TEE FARMERS UNION.

SUBJECTS FOR THE COLONIAL

CONFERENCE.

Wellington, Sunday. The fourth annual colonial conference of the New Zealand Farmers' Union is to commence on the 11th inst, in Wellington. There are 63 items for discussion, including the following :~"(1) That the Government be urged to so amend the Land Act as to give Crown tenants the option of purchasing the freehold of their land at the original value, and the payment of the difference between the four per cent, now charged on the lease in perpetuity and the five per cent, charged to tenants with right of purchase; (2) that all the Government land put in the market in future be thrown open on the optional system; (3) that the Land Act be amended so as to include the old deferred payment system; (4) that the endeavours of the union to obtain for all Crown tenants the option to secure the freehold be strenuously continued." The Auckland delegates will move, " That every working man be compelled to pay an insurance fee to cover accident assurance, and that the Government establish a fund to meet the payments of one-third of the cost, the employer to pay one-third and the employee to pay one-third."
