TRAGIC SHOOTING AFFRAY.

TWO WOMEN WOUNDED. ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT. Sydney, May 3. Yj-:stkkday Alfred Murray, aged 41 years, purchased a small revolver from Cecil Atkinson, an employee of the Lithgow Supply Company. Shortly after eleven o'clock he went to his home in Mori-street, and then went into the yard of Mrs. Fellowes, a neighbour, and asked for his wife, who had been staying there for protection since Sunday. They refused to allow him to enter the house, and he said, "If you don't let me in, I'll do something," and he drew a revolver. Mrs. Fellowes, though an elderly woman, got bold of him to prevent him entering the house, and the man fired several shots. Two of the shots took-effect on Miss Fellowes, one causing a slight scalp wound, and the other entering the upper part of the left arm, and coming out about 2iu from the point of entry. Another shot evidently struck Mrs. Fellowes on the head, causing a slight grazed wound across the forehead.

Mrs. Fellowes' sou, Stephen, closed with Murray. While the struggle proceeded, Mrs. Fellowes assisted her son, hitting Murray on the head with a broom. Captain Baxter came on the scene, and with his help Murray was secured. Information was sent to the police, and the senior-sergeant and Constable Hunt removed Murray to the lockup. Dr. Asher was shortly afterwards in attendance, and dressed the wounds of the injured women. A search was made, and a small revolver was found in a. washhouse at the rear of Murray's residence, A bullet mark was found'on the back wall of Mrs. Fellowes' residence, and two bullets were picked up, one being flattened. Murray, it is stated, had been drinking heavily lor some time. This afternoon accused was brought before the Polico Court. He walked unsteadily from the lockup yard to the dock, and was apparently suffering from the effects of drink, and a blow he had received. His head was swathed in bandages. He was charged with shooting Clara Fellowes with intent to murder her, and also with shooting at Anne Fellowes with intent to murdei her. Upon the application of the police, a, remand for eight days was granted in each case. Accused, addressing the Bench, said, 'Can I obtain bail?" The P.M. : "Not just now." Accused: "Can I possibly get bail?" The P.M. : "You are remanded for eight days. You may be brought up before then." Accused: "ft means a big item. lam absent from duty. 1 might lose my position."

On inquiry this afternoon it was ascertained that "the victims were still suffering severely from shock and from their injuries.
