In investment - lines Northern Steam (contributing) sold at Bs, at. which price more were wanted, sellers asking 8a Id. Bank of New Zealands were looked for at. £5 13s 6d, New- Zealand Insurance at 945, National.! at 21s fad, and South British at 925, without sellers. For National Banks buyers offered £5 9s. sellers firm at. £5 12s 6d. Standard Insurance hail sellers at 17s fad, buyers withdrawing after quoting at 16s 10d. New Zealand and River Plates were in demand at 2?s, Taupiri Coals at 20s, Auckland Gas at £15 Is, New Plymouth Gas at £7 ss, New Zealand Shipping at £5 15,, and New Zealand Drugs (£2 issue) at 475, with no declared sellers. In mining lines Woiotahis sold at. 20s fad, with further buyers at that price, seller?. 20s 9d. Old Albumins were done at Is 5(1 and Is 4d, and Moanataiari Extendcds (contributing) at. 3£d. Kuranui-Caledonians were offered at 2s 3d, buyers 2s. New May Queens at is 7d had buyers at Is fad. For New Moanataiavis 23 3d was offered, sellers 2s sd. Coronations (contributing) changed hands at oil. Golden Belts (contributing) sold freely at 3s 3d to 3s Id to 3s 3d to 39 2d. sellers closing at 3s 2d, buyers at 3s. l'ud-np issue were quoted nt 3s fail, buyers "is 2d Tairua Broken Hills gold at 2s, Talismans at lis, Waihi Beach at Bd. and Waihi Consolidated at 2s 2d. YE AWAMUTU SALE. j The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile j Agency Company, Limited (Hamilton), report:—At our Te Awamnta monthly stock hale on Saturday. May 6. we had a fall yard of cattle. The prices offered for the young cattle were slightly better than recent sales, and most of them changed hands at the hammer; other classes were not required, unless at low' values. Strong, good calves realised from-15s to £1 4s; others, 10s to 13s 6d; 15 month-old steers, £2 7s; yearling to 13 months heifers, £1 10s to £2 ss; forward-conditioned cow?, £4: fat sheep, 14s. A number of pigs ottered, but were not required, ami only a few were quitted at extremely low prices. A lot of produce and poultry sold well at about usual rates. A trap and harness realised £6 iili; ponies from 10s upwards. AGENT-GENERAL'S CABLEGRAM. [BI TEIEGBAPH.—-PBESB ASSOCIATION. Wellington, Monday. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, 6th inst.: — . . " There has been no alteration in the mutton market since last week's report. The iamb market is steady. The average price to-dav for New Zealand lamb (Canterbury brand) is SJd per lb. and for New Zealand lamb, of brand* other than Canterbury, 5Jd per lb. The beef market is quiet, New Zealand heine scarce. The average price to-day for hiiidqnarters of New Zealand beef is 3«d per lb; forequarters. 2./1 per lb. The butter market is quiet, with ; J tendency in favour of bavers. The average price of choicest New Zealand to-day i" 93s per cwt; Danish, r '9s per cwt. The cheese market is quiet, but steady. ' The average price of finest New Zealand cheese to-dav is 55s per cwt. There has lot been much change in the hemp market since bi-t report, the tendency being sliphtly ir favour of sellers. The stock is 1338 bales, 'a-' against 643 for the same period of last year. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet! and buyers arc not keen to do bnsiii» -. There is no pressure to sell, but a few inquiries are being made by speculative hirers. The average price for bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171b per bushel, on spot, is 53s per cwt. Die market is very active for all descriptions ol Wool." LONDON.
