FATHER HAYS ON THE WEST COAST.

OitKYiiounz, Sunday. The Rev. Father Hays arrived here on Saturday afternoon, and wad accorded a public reception, He was met at the train by a large crowd of people, and a procession, headed by * hand, marched to tin' baud rotunda, where ail address of welcome was given. A large crowd assembled in the Opera House in the evening, when Father Hays delivered a lecture , on temperance, which was received with marked attention. Father Hays is the guest of Dean Carew, awl celebrated Mass at St. Patrick's Church this morning.

Writing to the secretary of the New Zealand Alliance, Father Hays says:— '* I said on arrival a mouth ago, my crusade is absolutely unsectarian and non-party political. It is quite independent and not under the auspices of any organisation. The meetings are entirely 'my own,' and ire intended to do good to all mew.
