EXCLUDING NEW ZEALAND POTATOES:
A NOTIFICATION was published in the New South Wales Gazette recently prohibiting the introduction into New .South Wales of potatoes from any part of New ''Zealand. Already several of the Slates in the Commonwealth have issued proclamations prohibiting the introduction of the potato. Steamers are carefully inspected on. their arrival in Sydney, and their cargoes examined, and if an;-' of the vegetables are found on board they are reshipped to the colony. The' trouble is, says the Sydney Daily Telegraph, that we largely obtain our seed potatoes from New Zealand, and thus the disease is likely to be, readily introduced and distributed ovei the State. _ It is hoped, however, that the prompt action of the Government will prevent anj damage being done. It. is stated that. Ihe same disease has appeared in Norfolk Island.
