THE ART GALLERY.
TO THE SDITOK. Sir,—As a Visitor to your beautiful 'city I was very much surprised, on going to view your Art Gallery (of which i have heard so much) on Good Friday, to find is closed, and a notice saying it would be sd until after the Easter holidays. Surely" p this is a peculiar time to have it closed* seeing that there are so many visitors iri town who have no other opportunities of ' seeing the same. Yesterday being showery and no trams running, a large number ofi people were disappointed. 1 myself in &'/ very few minutes saw over a score of people try to gain admittance, and were indignant at not being able to get access. The Art Gallery, 1 assume, is for the tieople, and it being a people's holiday, surely one would expect to find it open. The enjoyment of a large number is saeri. ficed for tho benefit of a few officials, who, if similar to what Ave have in other towns, are not overworked. Regretting that I shall have to leave Auckland without see-, ing what is described to mo as the best collection of pictures in New Zealand.— am, etc., Visitor. -V April 22.
