EGG-LAYING COMPETITION.

' CitRiSTriiKRCH. Saturday. An .egg-laying competition, under the auspices of ,the New Zealand Utility Poultry Club, was inaugurated this afternoon at Lincoln College; under the control of the director, Mr. W. Lowrie. j There are 38 competitors. The pens were inspected by a large party, consisting of the mynbers of the club, competitors, and others, (ieneral satisfaction' was "expressed with the arrangements. Jn the function which followed reference was made to, the competitions of a. similar character, /which might be carried out at the college, awl the director spoke of the value that a competition in dairying cattle would be to the colony. The college' finances ' would not permit ,of such a competition being undertaken, but lie suggested that the idea was worthy of consideration by the Minister for Agriculture. Mr. ' Ell, M.H.R., said that if the Hoard of Governors of the college communicated on the subject to the Minister, their representations would probably, be favourably received.
