Very.little interest was shown in the Auek-land-Taranaki match, played last Saturday and Monday on the Domain ground. The visitors gave a poor imbibition, both with hat. and ball, but Auckland's hatting was very fait. The bowling of Oil iff (Auckland) was undoubtedly the ehie: feature of the game. On tho first day lie obtained eight wickets fo„- 27 runs, and in the Taranaki team's second innings • caponed seven wickets at. a cost oi 20 runs. Me bowled unchanged throughout both innings. Fourteen of his wickets were clean Ixiwled. On the first oay the wicket was slow and easv ; in the second it, was still easy, but a trifle faster.

Taranaki hatted first, but only scored 60. Tho Robertson brothers contributed 30 of this total, and showed by far the best cricket on their side. Crombie made 12, but gar® a chance, which was missed. Auckland mado 266 for the loss of eight wickets, and as it- was then well past noon on Monday 3'dliort declared tho innings closed. Tli* first five batsmen scored 226. F 11. Mason was top scorer with 62. Hp played t „ rv forceful cricket, his strokes were clean, ami. lie was particularly good on t.lie leu side. Mason was eventually run out. llrookSnnth scored 52. his hitting being also good, but lather too uppish. S. 1' Jones played perhaps the best innings of tho match, scoring 47. His strokes were clean and correctly played, and hardly a ball was lifted off the ground It was certainly the best innings for schoolboys to take a lesson from. J). Hav played a good innings for 33, and Kallender scored 32. though his. hitting was rather wild. Sehofield was the most successful bowler for the visitors, taking three wickets lor 46. runs, while dudgeon followed with two lor 69. The visiting lvoivlers on the whole kept .1 very poor length. I Taranaki. in their second attempt, could mdv put on 50 runs. Auckland thus winning by an innings and 156 runs. F. K. Robertson (13) was the only batsman to reach double figures in the visitors' second innings.

In the mutch between the GraH.m and Tttakau Clubs teams 011 Monday last L. G. Robinson (Grafton), Ixnvled extremely well, taking six wickets for 8 runs in thr first innings, and performing the rare feat of capturing all ten wickets for only 10 runs in the second innings, his pnaylsis showing 16 wickets for 18 runs. [11 the first innings Kastgato got the remaining four wickets for 14 runs. C. Wilks batted steadily lor 16 in the first innings, and ('. Robinson (9), L. (}. Robinson (8). .T. Lepiuo (7). and Spence (6) also batted well. In the second innings A. Horspool (17) and .T. Lepine (IS) were the only ones to make a stand, making- runs when they were badly wanted. The ground fielding of Grafton was very good indeed, but the catching was not quite tip to the \aark.
