London, April 26. The- Japanese have defeated the Russians in an encounter at Kaiyuen. Of the Russians 200 were killed, while the Japanese had only 38 casualties. (Received April 27, 11.44 p.m.) London, April 27. While one Russian column attacked Kaiyuen, another column attacked Chingtu. Oa the repulse at Kaiyuen taking place, both columns retreated northward. , General Linevitch reports that he has: made determined hut . futile attacks on Kaiyuen and Changtu.
