AQUATICS.

The race of the yachts of lie Roval NewZealand Squadron to Mailaitai last Saturday was very interesting. Ariki, however, allowed her superiority all through the race, and won somewhat easily. Thelmn. met with bad luck, carrying away her topmast hackStay when holding a good position, which pub her out of the. race. Ida sailed well, as did also Rangitira, throughout the race. The handieappors' arc to be congratulated upon the. result of their efforts, which left very little to be taken into consideration at the finish.

North Shore Yacht Club's handicap race for Mr. J. Dunning's cup last Saturday proved a most interesting contest, and tho officers of the clay are to ho congratulated upon the manner in which the race was conducted.

Auckland Rowing Club's crew which went to Wellington to compete in the championship regatta returned on Wednesday. Tho crew ara very grateful for tin; courtesy extended to them by the Wellington oarsmen during their stay, and trust thai at some future time they will be able to return the courtesy.

WEST END ROWING CLUB. This afternoon the West End Rowing Club hold trial fours for trophies presented by Mr. W. W. Wright, a committeeman of club. There are eleven crews engaged, and some good racing should take place. The following are tho crews: —

An "At Homo" and trial fours will bo hold by North Shore Rowing Club this afternoon at Cheltenham Beach, for challenge cup, presented by Messrs. Gubb. The first heat will be between Yeoland and Logan, the second heat between Smith and Wynyard, and the third heat between Gerrard and Bayley.

PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB. . The annual general handicap of the above club takes place this afternoon. The schooner Maggie, by the kind permission of Captain Kasper, will act as flagship. The course is as follows:—Start between flagship and boat moored south, thence around Calliope Dock buoy, thence around yacht Heartsease, back around Calliope Dock buoy, thence past south side of flagship, thence around Scotchman, thence around Heartsease, thence around ship America, finishing south side of flagship, coining up the harbour.
