The scores on the eomp let ion of the 21st head were 2* all, and three heads had to be played oft' to decide the winners, the result being that the challengers put on three points as against the single point scored by the Onehunga men (27 to 25).

This afternoon the Carlton players, holding the Kdwin stars, "ill have to defend them against a Iteuiuera team, consisting of Lennox. Soooner, the Rev. Monro, and Dingwall (skip). The challengers form a strong combination, and the Carlton men will have to he on their best behaviour to retain the " twinklcrs." Coombes, who lias been showing excellent form in match play lately, was not seen nt his best hist Saturday when Huddleston met and defeated him in the final for the Handcock prize on the Auckland Club's green by 21 points to 11. Practically everybody in Auckland knows who Mr. John Webster, of Hokianga, is, but perhaps not many will know that he- is an ardent bowler, and that ho is an expert at the game was proved on Wednesday last when Mr. Webster skipped in a game on tho Remuera green and won. The game was a pairs match, and Messrs. Webster and Maxfield were pitted against Messrs. Ranson and Bodle. After a very close and interesting game the veterans (it may b mentioned that Mr. Webster lately celebrated his 87th birthday) beat their opponents by two points, the game resulting Maxfield and Webster (skip), 18 points, Bodle and Ranson (-kip). 16 points. Mr. Webster has a private bowling green at his residence in Hokianga, and sonic years ago (October, 1901), shortly after the arrival of the Ngapuhi in New Zealand, the vessel was barbound at Hokianga. There being a number of bowlers on board a match was arranged, and Mr. Webster skipped the winning team.
