[FBOJI OUE OWN COItRESPOXDENTS.] WHANG All EI. Miss Ax.N'lE Potter, the young lady who was so badly burned on Wednesday, is now lying in ;i very low state at Whangarei Public Hospital. At the Police Court on Wednesday, before .Mr. C. Ilawkeu, J.P.. William Varley was charged with breaking and entering at Aratarui in December last, and with a similar offence at Dargaville in June last. The arrest was made by Constable Cahill. Accused was remanded to appear at liargaville on Saturday. HAMILTON. ON Tuesday a poll was taken of the Hamilton ratepayers as to borrowing £3000 or £2000 for stockyard improvements or the building of new stockyards. The voting was against both proposals, the numbers being respectively: For 96, against 121, and for 74, against 132. The Premier was interviewed when passing through Hamilton, and has consented to be present at the opening of the new Town Hall. The annual meeting of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in Hamilton to-day (Thursday). The bal-ance-sheet shows that, the assets exceed liabilities by £1645 6s Id, being an increase of £578 over last year; £3G6 of this sum is due to the increased value of the land. A man named Collins was charged at the Police Court this (Thursday) morning with having stolen the sum of £7 from the whare of a man named Frederick Meade. Both men are flaxmill hands. The accused was committed for trial at the next sessions m Auckland. Mail was allowed the accused in £200 and two sureties of £100 each.
