AKARaNA RIFLE CHUB'S MATCHES. The first trophy matches of the season for members of the- Akaraua Riflo Club were fired on the, club's range at- Penrose on Saturday afternoon. The attendance was above the average of former years, ami this is largely attributed to the enthusiasm of tho committee and the splendid trophies offered for competition. Mr. M. M. MeCallum, who presented the club with a splendid cup last season (won by Mr. J. Carlson), has given another cup to bo competed for under the same conditions as the. last, and it was for this that the members of the A class fired. Mr. T. Korr, with the splendid score of 99, proved tho winner, and, should he bo again successful on tho next occasion it is fired for, tho cup will become his personal property, in tho R class Mr. A. Latham was the highest scorer, compiling the good score of 90 points. The next highest scorers were Messrs. S. Bowe and R. Aylett with 87 each. Seven shots were fired at each nf the 2uuyds, 500 yds, and 600 yds ranges, the highest score at 20Uyds being the 33 of Mr. J. Carlson. At 500 yds Mr. 'i. Korr scored 34-, and at 600 yds Messrs. T. Kerr, J. Potter, and \V. Phillips each put on 33. A fairly stron« wind was blowing across the range, and the light was variable. Tho following aro the principal scores:— A Class: Mr. T. To Aroha on January 30 and 31 next, but, as arrangements could not bo made to conduct the meeting tit To Aroha, it will bo hold at Paeroa on those dates. Colour-Sergeant Andrews, Corporal Corkill, and Private Bray were added to the. committee, and Captain Ilubhard was appointed secretary. A programme of fen events, with prize money amounting to over £120, was drawn up and will be submitted to the officer commanding the district for approval.
