SPEED OF MOTOR CARS.
Sydney, December 31. The spaed at which many motor cars are J driven in the thoroughfares of Sydney was j strongly commented upon by the magistrate in the Summons Di\ision of the Water Police Court yesterday. Eugene Midler was charged with having control of a motor car on the 20th hist, which was alleged to have travelled at a speed of about 25 miles an hour. It was stated that the car was driven between a tram from which people were alighting and the footpath, and that several people in the vicinity had narrow escapes, it was the defendant's | second offence, and I lie magistrate, there- J fore, \nUicted a fine of .08 and costs, in de- j fault, two months' imprisonment, remarking that the practice was a highly dangerous one, and must oc put down.
