THE ANNUAL CONVENTION. The twelfth annual convention of the Auckland Provincial Christian Endeavour Union began at St. David's Parish Hall last evening, when a largo number of delegates from the various branches were present. The Rev. W. Gray Dixon presided. , '.'.. • '■ ■'• The report of the year's work was presented by the secretary, Mr. S. Falls. '; After referring to the visit of Dr. Clark, the founder of the movement, to the colony, the report went or to saj that during the year three senior societies had withdrawn from the union, while "four had affiliated, thus maiiinr a total of 41 affiliated societies. Altogether, there were 720 senior active members, an increase of 93; 176 associate members, an increase of 13; and 230 honorary members, an increase of 49. In the junior department there were 227 active and 113 associate members, making a total increase of 89 members for the year. . As- a matter of fact the total membership was 1476, and these figures compared with last year's showed an increase of 249. During the year 103 members had joined various churches. The tot*! receipts for the year were £372. Thirteen native teachers were supported in the? mission field, as well as an orphan at the Primitive Methodist Orphanage, England. Two junior societies Supported an orphan each in India, and a number of the voung mo—lters visited the hmnital regularly. Oiio member had gone to foreign 'mission work, and two were training for the ministry, three for foreign missions, one for home missions, and quite . a number were ' lay preachers. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, the Rev. G. W. Smailes; vice-presidents, the Revs. J. Eenning and J. A. Luxford and Mr. R. "VV. Swales; secretary. Mr. T. Rowe; assistant-secretary, Mr. G. Fordham ; and treasurer, Mr. 8. Falls. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. S. Falls, the retiring secretary, who had capably filled that position for three years. Special prayer meetings in connection with the convention will be held "in several of the churches on Sunday, and on Monday a united missionary meeting takes place at the lieresford-streel Congregational Church. For Tuesday there is to be a junior rally in St. James' Kail, and on Wednesday the contention will close with a united consecration meeting in the Auckland Tabernacle.
