OPIUM SMOKING.
[UY telegraph, —press ASSOCIATION.] Timaru, Friday. In Court this •norning some opium-smok-ing cases were heard, in which four Europeans, belonging to Christen and two Chinamen, were concerned. Two persons, for smoking opium, wore fined £3 and costs each, and two others, for abetting, were fined £2 and costs each. One person, for permitting the practice on his premises, was fined the maximum, £10, and the case against a sixth was dismissed.
