[PROM ooa own cobbbspondents.} WHANGABEI. AT a meeting of the Debating Society on Monday a very interesting lecture was delivered by the Rev. F. T. Bead, on " The Life of Henry Drammond, Professor in the Glasgow University." Mr. J. Eweu, an old resident of Whangarei. passed away on Tuesday. PAEEOA. A MEETING of the Paeroa Domain Board was held on Tuesday evening'. A number of members of the Paeroa Tennis Club Trailed on the Board with regard to the tennis courts on the Recreation Ground, and asked when they would be formed and ready to play on. It was decided to proceed with the formation of the ground at once. At the meeting of the Paeroa School Committee on Monday evening a request was received from the headmaster that no holidays be given at Michaelmas, but that the extra week be added to the Christmas holidays. The reason for the request given by the headmaster was that the holidays at Michaelmas would interfere with the preparation for the examination,. The committee declined to grant the teacher's request, and decided that the Michaelmas itiolMsiys should take place at the proper fima. DARGAVILLB. - / " THE contractor for the erection of the Dargaville Club building has made a start, and the frame has been put in position. The members are to be hit their now premises by November. I regret to announce that Mrs. Onmiston, wife of our esteemed schoolmaster, i» seriously ill. HAMILTON. THE courthouse is utterly unfitted for the sitting of the District Court. There is not sufdeiont room for judge, jury,, the press, witnesses, and the public A site lor a new court* house was acquired by the Government some months back, but no steps so far have been taken to erect a suitable building.
