Prior- to the wrestling contest between Harry Pearce and Professor Potter yesterday a match was-arranged between the Australian craok and Constable Arthur Skinner (Auckland), who disputes with R. Scott, the West Coast exponent, the claim to -'«»..re-.;; garded as champion of New Zealand, »kmner named the three styles-Cumberland, catch-as oatch-can, and Cornish—the result to be decided by the best two of three; falls, and the match to take place in Auckland about six weekn hence. Professor Potter under-: takes to hand'--a purse containing, Ybsovs to Pearce in the event ot his winning, while should Skinner succeed he is 1:o receive '-a; very valuable trophy. A sub-committee of the Victorian Amateur Athletic Association, appointed recently to arrange for amateur boxing championshipo, of Victoria, decided to hold a tournament at the end of September. The dates selected are September 24, 26, 28, and October 1. There are to be competitions in the following classes -.—Bantam, not - exceeding Bst 21b; feather (9st), light-weight (lOst), middle-weight (list 41b), and heavy-weight. The competitions are to be confined to amateurs under the definition of the Victorian Amateur Athletic Association. At a recent meeting of the council of' the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association the secretary was instructed to cable the council's American representative M*.**"-:-; E Sullivan) asking whether either Shrubby, England's long-distance champion, or Duffey, holder of the -vorld's record of 9 3-59. toi 100 yds, could be included.in the proposed team of athletes for the New Zealand and Australian tour. Should the reply be in the negative the chances are that the idea of bringing a team down during the present year will be abandoned, as the New South Wales Athletio Association, in its guarantee agreement, stipulated that the money would only be forthcoming m the event of on© or other of the athletes mentioned being included in the team. The secretary'-'of the Queensland Association has advised the authorities on this side (Christchurch) that Queensland will tie represented in the bantam, feather, and lightweight classes at the forthcoming Australasian amateur boxing championships. ISiothing definite has yet been received about the New South Wales team, though it is understood that the Commonwealth State will send three or four of their best men aoross. ' A team of American baseballers purpose setting out on a tour of the world, commencing on Octobei 21. - Australia and New Zealand are included in the itinerary of the tour.
