MEETINGS.

AUCKLAND SOCIETY OF MUSICIANS. The second animal general meeting,of the Auckland Society of Musicians was held lust evening at the Federal Hall. The chair was taken by Mr. W. 11. Webbe (vice-presi-dent). Prior to the business of the meeting a programme of musical items was given, in which the following ladies and gentlemen assisted: Misses Estelle Davis, Murray,' Henderson, Aickin, Law, Madoline Webbe. and Messrs. Laseron and Hamilton Hodges. The vice-president gave a brief resume of the work done by the society during the past session, and pointed out the advantages offered by membership. He especially drew attention to the fact that amateur musicians are eligible as associate members. The election of officers for the ensuing year then took place. The following were elected:—President, Mr. W. H. Webbe; vicepresident. Mr. R. Leslie Hunt; treasurer, Mr. A. Eady; secretary, Miss Alice Law, L.R.A.M.; councillors, Mrs. Ne*v», Misses Spooner and Stevenson, Messrs. Hamilton Hodges, T. E. Midgley, and Eugene Hulse. No. 3 WAIKATO MOuNTED RIFLES, D SQUADRON. . A meeting of the Shooting Committee of the No. 3 Waikato Mounted Rifles, D Squadron, was held in the Drill Shed, Cambridge, on Saturday evening, Captain Walker presiding. It was decided to shoot on Saturday, October 1, for a medal presented by Mr. C. Thomas, the conditions to be as underßanges, 200 yds, 500 yds, and 600 yds, class-firing targets one sighter at each range. Sergeant Bruce was appointed handicapper. The rifle range will be open every Saturday under the control of a non-commis-sioned officer. WAIROA SOUTH FARMERS' CLUB. The Wairoa South Farmers' Club met in the Public Hall, C'evedon, on August 27. The president - (Mr. J. S. Wilson) reported that .ho had attended the executive meeting of the Farmers' Union on August 2. A reply was received from Mr. Kirkbride on the question of export meat companies being empowered to sell meat slaughtered on their premises in cities, _ calling attention to Supreme Court decisions on the question in Christchurch, the decisions being favourable to the meat companies. A letter was received from the Minister for Agriculture stating that the assistance given by the Government to exporters of dairy butter would in all probability not be altogether withdrawn. The club invited the Auckland Trades and Labour Council to send a representative to Clevedou to discuss with them subjects of mutual interest. The council was favourable to the proposal, but owing to shortness of notice they were unable to get a representative to come, though they hoped to meet the club on a future occasion.

HELPING HAND MISSION. There was a very large gathering at the service at the Helping Hand Mission on Sunday evening. The superintendent, the Rev. B. F. Rothwell, conducted the meeting, and the old workers were delighted with addresses from the Rev. C. and Mrs. Dent, from. South Africa. The former is an old mission worker. M AUNG ATA WHIRI ROAD BOARD. The ordinary meeting of the Maungatawhiri Road Board was held at the Board's office, Razorback. on Saturday, September 3. Present: Messrs. J. G. Rutherford (chairman), W. H. P. Evans, G. H. Mackey, and the clerk (Mr. W. K. Cornthwaite). On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mi. Mackey, the halfpenny rate was confirmed. The Chairman reported that the petition entrusted to him from the five contributing bodies to the maintenance of the Maungatawliiri bridge to forward to the Minister for Public Works asking for a grant for a new bridge, ho had sent to the Minister for Public Works through the district member of the . House (Mr. Massey). The reply received' from the 'Minister through Mr. Massey was, to the effect that the petition would receive the Minister's most careful consideration when finally revising the Estimates for the current year. Messrs. Rutherford and Evans were appointed, delegates to attend the annual conference of road boards, to bo held at Papakura on September 21.
