ROBBERY OF JEWELLERY.
WINDOW SMASHED AND RINGS ,' V ' ■ TAKEN. ' .; ' ~ [BY TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] DtrNEDiN, Monday. A long time has elapsed since a serious robbery has occurred in Dunedin, but some time late last night, or early this morning, thieves smashed-a plateglass window in a small shop in George-street, occupied by G. F. Hutchison, jeweller, and removed a tray of rings set with diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds, valued at over £120. The window was partly covered by ? small shutter, which the thieves removed with the aid of an iron instrument which they left behind them. They smashed the window, and, picking up the tray, decamped. In their hurry they dropped some 16 rings, which were found by the police on the pavement, at about c-ne o'clock this morning. A number of other rings were also scattered about the window, showing that the robbers did not run the risk of waiting to pick up those they dropped in their flight.
