CYCLING.

Twenty-three entries have been received for the local Dunlop test, which takes place next Saturdav (July 2) from Cambridge to Fapakura, the country districts being well represented, riders nominating from Thames, Waikino, and several Waikato townships. In addition to the special prizes donated by the Dunlop Tire Company, the local committee is offering prizes of the following value:— prize, £10; second prize, £5; third prize, £3; fourth priite, £1. Arrangements have been made to check the riders at Hamilton, Huntly, Mercer, and Bombay, and refreshments will be provided at Mercer for any riders who may require same. The committee has invited the Auckland Automobile Association to make their weekly run to Papakura to see the finish, and a large number of local cyclists intend to go out and soe thin interesting contest. Competitors should note that special arrangements will be made for the conveyance of their machines to Cambridge by next Friday morning's train. The average life of a bicycle is at least 20.000 miles. It is expected that the Victorian crack, Don Walker, who has gone to the United States with "Major" Taylor, will make his first appearance on an American track at the St. Louis Exhibition on August 1. A carnival has been arranged, but may be interfered with by the non-success of the Exhibition, referred to in recent cable messages. The Amerioan papers are persistent in their statements that a renewal of the cycling enthusiasm which characterised the years 1896-7-8 is apparent this year. The arrangements in connection with the tost races to be held in other centres of the colony to choose a district representative to compote in the Dunlop Timaru-Christchurch road race are well in hand. The Wellington test race will be run to-day (June 25), over a course of 30 miles; the Nelson and Invercargill events on the 29th inst., over a distance of 48 miles and 53 miles respectively and the Dunedin race on the 2nd prox., the distance being 56 miles. The Manawatu test race is to be run on July 6, and the distance is set down as 70 miles. Information with reference to the Napier test race it; not yet to hand, but it is mentioned as probable that Mastorton will hold a similar race, so that the big event on July 16, and for which entries close on Saturday next (July 2) wi be represented by the finest road riders that ever competed in any event.
