' j AMERICAN Athletic TEAM'S PRO- I ;; POSED VISIT. The circular letter of the , New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, in connection with the proposed visit to the tetanies ; of <v : \ team of American amateur athletes towards the end of the present year, was before, the Auckland Geatre Committee last evening at the' Amateur Snorts Chtbrooms,"' Mr. Leo : Myers, chairman, ■ presiding* - After feoiine little discussion, ; in, the course of; which the opinion was expressed that no great difficulty would be experienced in raising the guarantee necessary to include Auckland in the tour, it was decided to refer the letter to the Management Committeei;of;lthe i Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club, in order: that their views might be ascertained. PONSONBY BOWLING ; CLUB. .? v. The annual general meeting of members of the Poiisonby Bowling Club was held last , evening in the . javilion, Mr. Jati, Kirkor, president, in the* chair. There was a very good attendance of members. ; Tile report of the committee (presented by the secretary, Mr. Veal©) congratulated the members on a successful season, the attendance on the green having been large, while the membership had been more than maintained, the year closing with 115 active and five honorary members, &a Against 111 for the preceding season. The upper green had been ; enlarged, giving the club one of the largest playing areas in the colony, the space en- j abling 15 rinks being played on at the one i time. In this connection.the best thanks of I the club were due to Messrs. Kirker, Be- i oroft, and Casey, : who had devoted a large | amount of time , and attention to the altera- I tions. The committee has to deeply deplore ! the loss the club has sustained in the deaths '.\ of Mr. J. H. Hudson, one of I, the oldest and i most honoured of the club's members, and j Mr. J. E. Robinson, one of the youngest members, and a general favourite. The great bowling event of the year had been the i Northern Association Tournament, held in \ Auckland, and at which the club's represen- ■ tatives—Messrs. Quinn, Newel!, - Veale, Kirker (skip),. Beemft, Buchanan, Watson,' and Ballantyne (skip)—-had acted as runners- i up in. the chief event, the banner contest, in | which their defeat by Wellington depended ' on the last bowl played in the game. At the same tournament Mr. Osmond won first prize in the subscription singles, and Messrs. Swa'es and Payne second prize in the subscription pairs. After referring to the local tournament (Auckland Association) and the" : , olub matches played— F. W. Darby winning the olub championship—the report wound up by thanking the ladies for their kind and untiring efforts, and the members! for the cordial and hearty support they had given the committee. The statement of, accounts showed receipts to be £499 Is 6d, practically the whole of which had been expended. On the other hand, there were no, outstanding liabilities, and the mortgage on the club property had been ' reduced ito £300. The fine block of ground on which the greens are situated, the buildings, ©te\, form a handsome asset. ... In , moving the "dqrttion of : the report and accounts the Chairman said that there was every reason to feel ( satisfied at the club's position and the doings of its members. in the various com- • petitions during the season. With regard to :the future, finances of the clubv he ex-' pressed the opinion that if ; 125; members, were. placed on the roll during the incoming ' year, and somewhat increased revenue could be derived from the club fences for advertising purposes, there should be no difficulty in meeting all expenses and wiping the beat part of £100 jjj-ff the mortgage of £300 which' represented $he total indebtedness of the club. The report and accounts were adopted. Officers were elected for the ensuing year as under:—President, Mr. Thomas Peacock (Mr. Kirker intimating beforehand that he did not seek re-election, and nominating his. successor); vice-presidents, Messrs. A. G. j Bartlett and J. Veale; hon. secretary, Mr. M; Fairs; hon. treasurer, Mr. F. W. Darby; ' committee, Messrs. J. Buchanan, J. Arneil, J. Nowell, and J. Gorman: auditor, Mr. Osmond ; delegates to the Auckland Bowling Association, Messrs. T. Peacock and M. Fairs (president; and secretary); match re- , presentative, Mr. J. Arneil. The club prizes won during the season were then distributed; as under:— Champion singles, Mr. F. W. Darby; Dewar's handicap singles, Mr. .T. ( Veale; Dawson handicap singles, Mr. C. H. : Jones; club fours, Messrs. Ernest, Ross, j Langsford, and Webb (skip); club pain?, Messrs. G. B. Osmond and M. Ross; first year players' ; championship, Mr. D. Crab- i tree. The three certificates forwarded by the Northern Bowling Association in connection with the recent tournament were also presented. The first went to the cluh» as ruhners-up for the Association banner, the second to Mr. G. B. Osmond, for winning the consolation singles, and the third to Messrs. J. J. Payne, And J. W. Swales, runners-up in the consolation pairs. The recipients announced their intention of having the certificates placed on the pavilion wall, Mr. Robinson kindly undertaliing to frame them, and Mr, Ballantyne to photograph them in order that the winners might have copies.
