MEETINGS.

ONE-TREE HILL ROAD BOaRD. The monthly meeting of the One-tree Hill Road Board was held in the Newmarket Hall on Tuesday last. Present: Messrs. E. W. Burton (chairman), W. Wall and the- Hon. H. Dovereux. Mr. Metcalfe, 0.K., submitted plans and estimate in connection with a proposed drainage scheme. The chairman and Mr. Dovereux wcro appointed a committee to examine and report at next meeting. It was resolved that the Auckland Electric Tramways Company's attention he called to the covenant in the deed of delegation requiring the maintenance of its section of the road in a proper course of macadam, and that the company be required to effect the necessary repairs to the One-tree Hill section of the Manukau Road forthwith. Tenders fo. carting were received from Messrs. Higgins, Peach and Pascoo for No. 1 contract, and from Messrs. Pray, McCarten Bros, and Poach for No. 2 contract. Mr. Peach's tender for each contract being the lowest was accepted. Mr. John P. Hootou wrote requesting the Board to pass a resolution declaring that the provisions of subsection 1 of section 3 of the Public. Works Act, 1903, shall not. apply to Wall's Road, Penrose, connecting Rockficld Road with the Great .South Road. The request was granted. Mr. Hansen wrote submitting tracings showing additional tramway sidings required, and requesting the Board's approval of the same. The Board resolved that the application be granted, provided that tho road be restored where the siding works are undertaken in a proper course of macadam as defined by the deed of delegation. A letter was received from a number of residents in Cornwall Park Avenue requesting that a lamp-post be erected and the footpath tarred and sanded. It was resolved that a lamp bo erected and the foreman make the necessary repairs to the footpath with a view of tarring and sanding the same next season. The secretary to the Treasury wrote stating that in terms of section 57 of the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1901. the loan of £1500 granted for the remaking of Manukau Road has been inscribed. Accounts to the amount of £150 10! 5d were passed for payment.

KAUKAPAKAPA .FARMERS' UNION. The annual meeting of the Kaukapakapa Farmers' Union was held on Monday last, the president, Mr. F. Dye, being in the chair. The attendance was poor. Tho annual report stated that little interest had been taken in tho. work of the union, and that there had been a considerable decrease in the membership. The enrolment now stands at 40. The balance-sheet showed a total income of £6 4s Bd, the expenditure (including an item of £3 6s paid to the Auckland central branch) £5 6s, leaving a credit balance of 18s Bd. A circular dealing with the question of fire insurance was read and discussed. Mi. Morrison was appointed auditor and Mr. F. Dye delegate to the Farmers' Union Conference at Auckland. AUCKLAND KENNEL CLUB. A committee meeting of the Auckland Kennel Club was held on Tuesday, to arrrange details and dates of 1904 show. There was a full attendance of both committee and vicepresidents. In (he absence of the chairman (Mi. G. W. S. Patterson), Mr. W. H. Gothorpe was voted to tho chair. The dates for the 1904 show were fixed for July 22 and 23, at the Federal Hall. These dates coming some eight days after the Napier show, give Southern exhibitors a rare chance to forward their dogs to Auckland. Mr. J. C. Coupe, of Melbourne, was appointed judge of all classes except bulldogs, Mr. E. Perks, Birkenhead, being appointed judge for the latter class. Tho secretary reports everything points to a successful show for 1904, and already 19 new- members have joined the club since last show.

AIANGERE FARMERS' UNION. The annual meeting of the Mangore branch of tho Now Zealand Farmers' Union was held in tho Mangere Public Hall on Tuesday last. All. Wosfeney was elected president; Air. W. Scott, vice-president; Mr. Jos. Alontgomerio, secretary; Air. T. Henwood, treasurer; and Mr. Gniuths, auditor. The members of the committee were re-elected. On the motion of Mr. Westney, it was unanimously agreed that tho annual subscription bo ss. The secretary, Air. Jas. Alontgomerie, was elected delegate for the branch to the Auckland Conference. The subjects on tho conference order paper wore then considered. Among others, mutual fire insurance was discussed, and the secretary obtained a good many signatures of those who intend insuring in the' Auckland Mutual, Re the remit, from Clevedon, as to the desirability of forming a cooperative company for the purpose of milling and grading fanners' butter for export, it was pointed out that scarcely any farmers' (separator) butter was made in the district, the milk mostly going to the town supply and the factory. At the same time members said of their own knowledge the grocers' quotations in tho papers of the rates for best separator butter had for the. past year been ridiculously low, and misleading to the back country settlers, who were unable to come regularly to Auckland and transact business. The Fanners' Freezing Company, the Slaughtering Act, and other .subjects were 'discussed at length.

LECTURE AT HOW] OK.

The first of the winter series of lectures in aid of the church enlargement fund, was held in the newly-enlarged Presbyterian Church, Ho wick, on Wednesday last. Tho Rev. A. Doull, M.A., presided. The Rev. C. Worboys lectured on "Love, Courtship, and Marriage." The lecture was listened to with great attention. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to tho lecturer, to Miss Green for her violin solo, and to Air. Fairburn for presiding at the organ.

ORGAN RECITAL Al ST. .TUBE'S.

On Wednesday evening Mr. .Sharp, late organist of the Napier Cathedral, gave an organ recital at St. Judo's Church, Avondale, before a largo audience. Mr. Sharp's selections were, Dubois' " Toccato," Boccherini's " Minuet," Scotson Clark's "Flambeaux March." and "Halleluiah Chorus," from the " Messiah." Air. C. Diggins sang Pontct's " Last Milestone," Airs. J. R. Simpson " There is a Green Hill " Miss 11. Bollard "I Will Give You Rest'," and Mr. R. Aickin " Ahsolom." The choir gave three anthems. TrimmelPs "The Earth is the Lord's," " Woodward's " Radiant Morn," and Caleb Simper's "King of Kings."
