Mb. H. C. Watson, of Wellington, leaves for San Francisco by the mail steamer Sonoma on Friday next, en route for Europe. Mr. F. L. Branfill, of the head office of the Union. Bank, is to be a passenger by the Zealandia for Sydney on Monday, en route for England. Archbishop Redwood, of Wellington, leaves Auckland for San Francisco by the mail steamer Sonoma on Friday next, en route lor Rome. Captain H. Hollis, of the Tyser liner Tomoana, has been appointed to the command of the company's steamer Niwaru, which has left London for Australia and
New Zealand. The Hon. George McLean, M.L.C., was a passenger for Sydney by the steamer Moeraki, from Wellington, on Saturday last. He will spend four or five weeks in Sydney, Melbourne, and Hubart before returning to Dunedin. Mr. M. G. Heeles, manager of the Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Company, leaves Auckland by the mail steamer Ventura next " month for San Francisco, and after touring the United States proceeds on to Europe. Mr. T. Scott, Mayor of Dunedin, arrived in Auckland yesterday, for the purpose of being present at the hearing of the electric tramways case in the Arbitration Court.. Mr. Scott, who is accompanied Dy Mrs. Scott, intends to visit Rotorua after the case
is concluded. The Rev. J. T. Pinfold, of the Hamilton Methodist Church, left for Fiji by die *«Moura on Wednesday to join the mail steamer Miowera for Vancouver. After touring Canada and the United States, Mr. Pinfold proceeds to Europe, and returns to Auckland about the end of this year. Callers at the Auckland Tourist Office during the past week, have included the following- —Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wallace (London), Mr. and Mrs. Appleton (United I States), Mrs. Risley (New York).' Miss Sidey (Svdnev), Messrs. W. H. Johnson (Eng- • land). B. Aitken (Lucknow. India), H. Walker (Erie, Pen., U.S.A.), and Mr. Redward (Wellington). Mr. J. W. Storey, assistant clerk of the Court at Hamilton, has received intimation •of his earlv removal to Auckland. Mr. Storey has "been stationed in Hamilton for about three years, and during that time has (says our Hamilton correspondent) made himself liked and respected by all having .business in the Court. He was, in addition, 'an enthusiastic athlete, and his fellow footballers will miss him from their ranks. Among the passengers who arrived in Auckland from the South by the Talune yesterday were the Rev. Colin Robertson (a minister of the Victorian Presbyterian Church, who has accepted a call from Whangarei), and his wife and six children. Mr. Robertson's present appointment is for six months, after which he has to be formally received into the New Zealand Church by the General Assembly. He leaves on Monday or Tuesday next for Whangarei, tc take up his ministerial duties. At the close of the performance of the " Green Lanes of England." by the Dumpier Dramatic Company, in the Opera House, last night, Mr. J. McDermott called the working staff of the Opera House together on the stage, and, in their behalf, presented Mr Alfred Dampier with a fine photographic shield—sft by 3ft 6in—the work of Mr. R. Love, illuminated by Mr. Hutchinson. The ' shield contains photographs of all the workers at the theatre. Mr. McDermott made a very graceful little speech in handing over the shield, and Mr. Dampier replied in very affecting terms. Another pleasing little ceremony was then performed, Mr. McDermott, again on behalf of the working staff, presenting Miss Kathenne Russell (Mrs. Alfred Dampier) with a beautifully bevelled greenstone bangle, heavily mounted in gold.
