ACCIDENT IN HOBSONSTREET.

WOMAN RUN OVER BY A CART. WnrLE crossing the road in Hobson-street, near the Prince of Wales Hotel, yesterday afternoon, in company with a little niece, a middle-aged woman named Mrs. Milward (wife of Mr. Alexander Milward), who resides in Cook-street, met with a painful and serious accident, through being knocked down and run over by a cart belonging to Mr. S. Hill, coachbuilder, of Karangahape Road. Mrs. Milward, who is somewhat deaf, evidently did not appear to hear the vehicle approaching, and the driver, who thought she had ample time to get clear, did not pull up till too late to avert the accident. One of the wheels passed over Mrs. Milward. in addition to which she was badly bruised about the face and hands through being thrown violently to the ground. The little girl, <vho is a daughter of Mrs. Dempsey, of the Auckland dairy, was also knocked down, but fell clear of the cart, and escaped with bruises and a slight injury to one foot. Mrs. Milward was unconscious when picked up, and both she and the little girl were taken to the surgery of Dr. Hooper —not far distant from the scene of the mishap—where a medical examination disclosed the fact that Mrs Milward was suffering from concussion of the brain, while several of her teeth had been knocked out. The little girl was taken to her home, and Mrs. Milward was sent to the hospital for treatment. Dr. Hooper having done all that was possible in the meantime. On inquiry at the hospital last evening, it was ascertained that Mrs. Milward is not in a serious condition, but is suffering considerably from the severe j shaking and the injuries received. I
