TREE PLANTING.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday. THe Minister for Agriculture says it will take 75 years before the colony's timber resources are exhausted. The Government is pursuing a vigorous policy in regard to tree-planting, and it is. anticipated that about 5,000,000 young trees will be available this year from the State nurseries for plantation, an increase of 2,000,000 over the previous year. The planting done by prison labour has proved a very successful experiment, particularly at Waiotapu, so much so that it is intended to double the prison labour at the State nurseries so as to get still better results. Extensive tree planting is to b» done at Hanmer among other places this year.
