.The work of converting Freeman's Bay reclamation into a public park is proceeding apace, but it is not intended to properly finish it this season. On account of the large amount of filliug-in that has had to be done, and the consequent solidification that- has to take place, it is not intended to undertake the necessary grass-sowing or top-dressing until next season. The contract for the filliug-in and excavation is expected to be completed in tbreo weeks' time. A start has been made to prepare for the planting ot shrubs, etc., and everything possible will be done this season. A 7ft corrugated iron fence, with totara posts, erected V: round the grounds, ?is :, completed, while a handsome «et -A gate-posts has been constructed. The wrought-iron gates to be used at the main entrance are now on the ground, while the fence surmounting thy concrete wall at the approach was completed yesterday. Provision has been made 01 the ; erection of a pavilion, band rotunda, tea kiosk, and r lodge- but so far the plans of these buildings have not been placed befoiie the.City Council.
