EDUCATION CONFERENCE. (Deceived April 12, 11.24 p.m.) Sydney, April 12. The Education Conference adopted recommendations in favour of the establishment of a kindergarten college, and the Sloyd system of manual training in schools. OBITUARY. Brisbane, April 12. Mr. Brown, Minister for Mines, died today, aged 57. WEST AUSTRALIAN NATIVES. Perth, April 12. The Colonial Secretary and the Chief Protector of Aborigines state that there is no foundation for the charges of ill-treat-ment and the slavery of West- Australian natives contained in Mr. Walter Malcolmson's letter to the Times. Inquiries into similar charges made by Mr. Malcolmson two years ago proved them to lis without foundation. (Received April IS, 1.l a.m.) Melbourne, April 18. The Rev. Dr. R-entoul, a personal friend of Mr. Malcolmson's, supports the letter's statements regarding the slavery .of West Australian natives. He says: they are not exaggerated, they refer to recent and presentevents. and are backed by roost explicit and detailed evidence. EARTH TREMORS. Melbotirns, April 12. Earth tremors were experienced in various parts of the State yesterday morning. THE STRANDING OF THE ARAMAC. Br. is bants, April 12. The Marine Board has found that the stranding of the steamer Aramac was due to an abnormally strong current, and has exonerated the captain from all blame. The Court found, however, that the third officer, Mr. Cooper, was not fully alive to the responsibility of his position, and cautioned him.
